Giant Panda Naming and Painting Competition

The Central Government gifted another pair of giant pandas to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), fully demonstrating its care and support for the HKSAR. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which makes this gift even more special.The two giant pandas arrived in Hong Kong on 26 September 2024 and have become new members of our family. To welcome these two giant pandas, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the HKSAR Government is organising the “Giant Panda Naming Competition” and the “Giant Panda Painting Competition”, and has appointed Ocean Park Corporation as the co-organiser.Naming CompetitionThe current names of the two giant pandas are “An An” (male giant panda) and “Ke Ke” (female giant panda). All Hong Kong residents are welcome to exercise creativity and suggest meaningful new names for the giant pandas that highlight their characteristics. Participants are also welcome to propose keeping the current names of the two giant pandas with an explanation of the meaning of the names. The Putonghua Pinyin of the selected Chinese names will be adopted as the English names of the giant pandas.The competition will be open to all Hong Kong residents from 2 October 2024 with submission deadline on 27 October 2024, 23:59:59. Each person can only submit one entry. Selected participants will receive fabulous prizes. Participation of all eligible members of the public is welcome.Painting CompetitionThe competition invites everyone to make reference to the photos and videos of the two giant pandas and depict their adorable nature.Entries will be accepted starting from 21 October 2024, with submission deadline on 8 November 2024, 23:59:59. All Hong Kong residents are welcome to participate, and each person can only submit one entry. Selected participants will receive fabulous prizes. Everyone is welcome to actively participate!

Basic Law Quiz Competition 2024-25

The Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education and the Local Community Sub-group under the Working Group on Constitution, Basic Law and Hong Kong National Security Law of the Constitution and Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee are launching a new round of Basic Law Quiz Competition. Entry round of the Competition opens from 31 October for application.The Competition covers the relationship between the Constitution and the Basic Law, the Basic Law and its history as well as national security.  There are Family, Senior Primary School, Secondary School and Open categories.  Participants who have answered all 20 questions in the entry round and successfully submitted their applications will have the opportunity to receive a Civic Education Calendar 2025 by mail while stock lasts.  Participants with the best performance in each category in the entry round will be selected by ballot to attend the Quiz Final and Prize Presentation Ceremony.  Attendees may have a chance to compete in question sessions for prizes worth up to HK$6,000.

10 000 Steps a Day Walking Challenge 2024

Regular physical activity can provide plenty of health benefits. Walking is an easy and feasible starting point for developing the habit of regular physical activity in daily life. Apart from improving cardiopulmonary function, strengthening muscle and bone, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes and certain cancers, walking can improve mental health and relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety. Adults are recommended to gradually increase their daily step goal to 10,000 based on individual’s own physical conditions, abilities, pace and circumstances. Even if the goal cannot be reached yet, any amount of walking is better than sitting.The Health Bureau and the Department of Health will organise the Walking Challenge under the “10,000 Steps a Day” campaign with the slogan of ” Shall We Walk and Talk” in November 2024, which includes a Workplace Organisation Walking Challenge to raise awareness of the physical and mental health benefits of walking, encourage friends and colleagues to support each other and walk 10,000 steps a day.Features of this year's Walking Challenge are as follows:The Walking Challenge is one of the events marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. Hong Kong and the GBA Mainland cities will organise walking activities at the same period under the common theme of "Walking Together in Healthy Bay Area".Participants are required to enrol in the Walking Challenge and record their step count during the challenge period through "e+Life", the recently launched health challenge platform under the eHealth app. Participants reaching a daily average of 10 000 steps (around 7.5 kilometres in distance) during the challenge period can be awarded an electronic certificate of achievement from the "e+Life" platform.With the slogan "Shall We Walk and Talk", the Walking Challenge includes a Workplace Organisation Walking Challenge, which aims to raise public awareness of the physical and mental health benefits of walking, encourage friends and colleagues to support each other and walk 10 000 steps daily.     Details of the Walking Challenge in Hong Kong are as follows:Target participants: adults aged 18 or aboveIndividual enrolment period: 1 to 31 October Workplace organisation enrolment period: On or before October 15; after the workplace organisations are successfully enrolled, their staff members can enrol from 1 to 31 October and select their representing organisationsChallenge period: 1 to 30 November Interested individuals can enrol through "e+Life" by logging into the eHealth app, commencing on 1 October. Interested workplace organisations can register with the DH for the Walking Challenge on or before 15 October. After successful enrolment of the workplace organisation, their staff will be able to select their respective organisations when enrolling through "e+Life", and the step counts of participating staff will be attributed to the organisation they choose. Moreover, participants only need to connect the "e+Life" platform with their mobile health tracking apps of their own mobile phones during the challenge, and their steps will be recorded on the "e+Life" platform. This initiative encourages everyone to walk 10 000 steps with friends for health.
